22nd October 2022
Congratulations to the children on completing their very first term at school. We could not be more proud!
We have had a lovely last week of term. They are tried and many of them are full of cold, but they have shown such amazing resilience in coming to school and giving their absolute best day in and day out. Well done Team Topaz and Team Aqua!
In maths this week, we have been learning about positional and directional language, as well as learning about patterns. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary, such as, in front, behind, next to, opposite, forwards, backwards, in between and around. We had fun hiding teddy bears and giving our friends clues and directions as to where to find them using all the new words we have learnt. We have also learnt about repeating patterns. We have enjoyed making patterns in lots of creative ways.
In English this week, we continued to learn our sounds. We have been playing oral blending games, writing our sounds in fun ways and beginning to have a go at reading and writing words. The children have picked up so well on the new sounds they have learnt and are making fantastic progress. We have also been learning about non-fiction books this week and have loved making our own pages to create our own class non-fiction books.
In Topic this week, we continued to learn all about farms. We used non-fiction books to teach us all about farms, the food they produce and the animals on them. We learnt about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books. We also learnt what a contents page is and how to use it.
When we return after the school holidays, we will be learning about both Diwali and fireworks night. We will learn the meaning and history behind them both and how and why they are celebrated in our communities. As part of this the children will be tasting foods eaten during the Diwali festival. We have the list of allergies for our children, but if you wish your child not to take part in the food tasting, please their class teacher know.
Reminders:
The children will return to school at normal time on Tuesday 2nd November - Red romans non-school uniform on this day as they received the most housepoints this term
