One Childhood, One Chance

Tuesday 7th July

Good morning Team Teal and Team Periwinkle. We hope that you are all happy, safe and healthy!

Here’s today’s learning:

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1.   Find the sound ‘ow’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘ow- brown cow.’  When you're finished, point to some other sounds (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (now, cow, brown, frown, clown). Remember they need to find the special/chatty friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (shake, knight, singing, time, shine). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words: clowp, frowg, drowf. Ask your child to spot the special/chatty friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (now, cow, brown, frown, clown). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

It is also important for children to practise reading red words which cannot be Fred talked. These words need to be learnt by sight but can be done so through a variety of fun games. You could write some of the red words down on pieces of paper and play snap, bingo, put them around the room/ garden for children to run to when called out or children could practise writing them out in chalk, paint, sand etc. Knowing these red words will help children become speedier and more confident when reading.

English

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/library-page?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=&level=&level_select=&book_type=&series=Read+Write+Inc.#

Retell the main parts of the story with each other. Did you like the book? Why/why not? What was the best part of the book?

Draw pictures to show what the mains part of the story are (about 3 or 4 pictures will be fabulous). You could write a sentence underneath each picture too.

Maths

To warm our maths brains up, click on the link, choose the + section and clink on number bonds to make 10 (choose number bonds to 20 if you feel confident).

Today, we will continue to divide by sharing equally. There are calculations attached to use (there are quite a few calculations so don’t feel like you need to complete them all!) Use resources around the home to help you to solve them.

12 ÷ 3 =

With this calculation, you will need to get 12 objects and then share them equally between 3 groups. The number you have in each group (4) is the answer!

12 ÷ 3 = 4

Topic – PSHE

Today we will continue to think about online safety. Refer back to previous lesson and think about how the internet is used. Explain that the internet is a wonderful thing and we can find things out instantly (share how this was not the case when we were younger and that we would have to use different routes to find out information). What else can the internet be used for (buying things, playing games, banking, finding our recipes.....etc). Create a list of all the things that can be done on the internet.

ACTIVITY:  create a poster to show all the things that can be done on the internet.
